Tent Fabrics

Floor Fabrics
70 denier 2.6 oz. Polyurethane Coated Nylon Taffeta is used on the floors of all our tents except the Mothership. This high denier fabric allows for multiple passes of polyurethane coating for greater waterproofness. The fabric is waterproof to 165 PSI, (while the military standard for waterproof fabric is only 25 PSI) yet is 10% lighter than competitors' tent floors. In addition, the high denier of the fabric combined with a 210 thread count yields a high tear strength, which creates an extremely durable tent floor.

210 denier 4.9 oz Coated Oxford Nylon, used for the floor of our Mothership tent, has the attributes of our standard tent floor fabrics (noted above), with a higher denier and thread count to make it even more durable. As with our standard floors, the fabric is coated with multiple passes of polyurethane for waterproofness.

Canopy Fabrics
70 denier 2 oz. Ripstop Nylon, used for the canopy of all of our tents except the Ultra Light Year CD and the Hercules AST, is water resistant and highly breathable to allow condensation to escape. We use a slightly heavier canopy than most manufacturers for higher tear strength and greater fabric stability while sewing. These characteristics allow us to create stronger, better-tensioned tent bodies with stronger, more consistent seams.

40 denier 1.4 oz. Ripstop Nylon is used for the canopy of Ultra Light Year CD and Hercules AST tents to save weight but retain the necessary strength and stability of the tent body. It is water resistant and highly breathable to allow condensation to escape.

No-See-Um Mesh
20 denier 1.6 oz. Woven Nylon No-See-Um Mesh fabric is the most durable lightweight netting on the market. It allows ventilation and visibility in your tent wall or ceiling while providing a barrier to tiny critters.

Flysheet fabric
70 denier 2 oz. Polyurethane Coated Nylon Taffeta is the flysheet fabric for all of our tents except the Ultra Light Year CD and Hercules AST. It has a 1500mm waterproof PU coating and a waterproof rating of 80 PSI. We choose nylon over polyester because it has a higher abrasion resistance and tear strength, even after prolonged UV exposure.

30 denier 1.94 oz. High-Tenacity Nylon Ripstop with a 246 thread count is used for the flysheets of our Ultra Light Year and Hercules AST tents. It has a silicon coating on the outside and a 80 psi waterproof polyurethane coating on the inside.
